In April and May
Kindergarten students will work in Microsoft Word to use basic function keys such as space bar, backspace and shift. Students will work in small groups for individualized instruction and practice using keys as well as independently at their own computers. Students will work on an end of the year alphabet and number project to put into action their keyboarding and word processing skills.
First grade students will work in Microsoft Word to use special function keys such as the arrows, caps lock and punctuation keys. They will continue to build on their skills using text features in Microsoft Word. Students will also use the PowerPoint software to create a mini book that will incorporate keyboarding and word processing skills and the use of clip art for illustrating.
Second grade students will cover how to find information on the Internet. Topics to be discussed include how to tell if information found online is accurate and reliable, search engines and how to cite sources.
Third grade students will work in the Excel software and learn the basic functions in the program. Students will interpret and analyze information from charts and graphs and be able to enter data into a spreadsheet and develop a basic chart and graph using that data.
Fourth and fifth grade students will use Excel software and basic functions in the program. Students will learn how to use formulas to calculate data values. Studens will complete a project where they must collect data, input the data into a spreadsheet and create a graph to represent their findings.
